When MLB integrated the Negro League's seven major-circuit seasons into its official statistical record in May 2024, Josh Gibson's .372 career batting average became the highest in MLB history. Satchel Paige had already been the first Negro Leaguer inducted into Cooperstown back in 1971. Jackie Robinson came from the Kansas City Monarchs to break the color barrier in '47. Larry Doby followed eleven weeks later to integrate the American League.
