Larry Bird is the most decorated Boston Celtic of the modern era — three NBA championships, three regular-season MVPs (consecutively from 1984 to 1986), and the player who, alongside Magic Johnson, dragged the NBA out of the late-1970s slump and into mainstream relevance. The 6-foot-9 forward out of Indiana State could pass like Magic, shoot like nobody else his size, and trash-talk in a way that became its own folk art. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998.
