The 1985 Topps RC #620 is the iconic Gooden rookie — one of the defining cards of the entire 80s era. The 1985 Donruss RC #190 and 1985 Fleer RC #82 complete the rookie trifecta. The 1984 Topps Traded XRC #42T is the true first card and remains a long-standing collector favorite.

Doc. At 19 years old in 1984, Dwight Gooden was already the most electric pitcher in baseball — NL Rookie of the Year with 276 strikeouts and a 2.60 ERA. The 1985 follow-up may be the single greatest season any starting pitcher has had in modern history: 24-4 with a 1.53 ERA and 268 Ks, the youngest Cy Young winner ever at 20.

He led the 1986 Mets to a World Series ring as the staff ace, and later added two more rings with the Yankees in the late 90s, including a no-hitter for New York in May 1996. For Mets fans, no pitcher has ever burned brighter.
