On February 14 2002 — The Detroit Tigers sign Dmitri Young, who hit .302 with 21 home runs for Cincinnati last season, to a four-year contract. Detroit traded outfielder Juan Encarnación and minor leaguer Luis Pineda in December to acquire the 1B/OF.
