It took 1,734 regular-season games, but Christian Yelich finally got his World Series moment, and he made it count. In the first inning of Game 1 on October 23 at American Family Field, Yelich lined an RBI triple that put the Milwaukee Brewers ahead for good, and Milwaukee held off a late Tampa Bay rally to win 3-2 and take a 1-0 series lead.
The rest of the night belonged to the Brewers' young core. Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run over five innings for the win, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras had two hits each, and Contreras threw out two runners trying to steal. Trevor Megill closed it out in the ninth, striking out Jonny DeLuca with the tying run on base.
Who is Christian Yelich?
Yelich arrived from the Marlins before the 2018 season and won the NL MVP in his first year in Milwaukee. He won back-to-back NL batting titles in 2018 and 2019 and has been the face of the Brewers through every playoff run since, until this one finally reached the World Series.
