June 2 in Yankees History: Wally Pipp sits, Gehrig takes over at first (1925)

Slumping first baseman Wally Pipp removed himself from the lineup, and Lou Gehrig took his place at first base. Gehrig held the job and started every Yankees game through April 1939. June 2 was later named Lou Gehrig Day across MLB.
