June 13 in Yankees History: Yankees retire Babe Ruth's No. 3 (1948)

In a ceremony marking Yankee Stadium's 25th anniversary, the Yankees retired Babe Ruth's No. 3 before a crowd of 49,641. A gravely ill Ruth made his final appearance at the Stadium, captured in Nat Fein's Pulitzer Prize-winning photo "The Babe Bows Out." He died two months later.
