June 19 in Wizards History: Bullets draft Mel Turpin sixth, deal him to Cleveland (1984)

In the loaded 1984 NBA Draft on June 19, the Washington Bullets selected Kentucky center Mel Turpin with the sixth overall pick, then traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal. The 1984 class also produced Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley.
