On January 3, 1991, Hall of Fame shortstop Luke Appling dies at the age of 83. One of the few Hall of Famers never to play in a World Series, Appling batted .310 during a 20-year career with the Chicago White Sox . In 1964, the Baseball Writers’ Association elected Appling to the Hall of Fame. @ET-D
