Peter O'Malley announced plans to put the Los Angeles Dodgers up for sale, ending more than 50 years of O'Malley family ownership that began when his father Walter purchased part of the franchise in 1947. The franchise would be sold to Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation for $311 million less than a year later.
