January 4 in Dodgers History: Brooklyn Dodgers purchase first MLB team airplane (1957)

The Brooklyn Dodgers became the first Major League Baseball team to purchase their own aircraft, acquiring a Convair 440 two-engine airplane for over $700,000 to transport players between cities. The 44-passenger plane replaced the team's previous reliance on trains for travel.
