The Curacao Kid is Heading to Cooperstown! ⚾️🏆
It’s official! After nearly a decade of waiting, the legendary Andruw Jones has finally received the call he’s been dreaming of since he first picked up a glove in Curacao. On January 20, 2026, the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) announced that Jones, along with Carlos Beltrán, has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
One of Baseball’s Greatest Climbs
Andruw's journey to the Hall of Fame is one for the record books. Back in 2018, he debuted on the ballot with a measly 7.3% of the vote—nearly falling off entirely. Seven years of steady momentum later, he cleared the 75% threshold in his ninth year of eligibility, securing 78.4% of the total ballots (333 out of 425).He becomes the first native of Curaçao to ever be inducted, a historic milestone for Caribbean baseball.
Why He’s a Legend
While his 434 career home runs were impressive, Andruw Jones was primarily known as the greatest defensive outfielder of his generation. His résumé is nothing short of elite:
- 10 Consecutive Gold Gloves: From 1998 to 2007, he owned center field in Atlanta.
- Defensive WAR King: His 24.4 defensive WAR is the highest of any outfielder in MLB history.
- World Series Prodigy: At age 19, he famously became the youngest player to homer in a World Series, going deep twice in his first two at-bats at Yankee Stadium in 1996.
