The card collector's view

Roy's rookie card is the 1986-87 O-Pee-Chee #53 — one of the most chased modern hockey rookies in the hobby, with high-grade examples in strong demand. The 1986-87 Topps #53 is the US-market parallel. O-Pee-Chee, Topps, and early Upper Deck releases from 1987-2003 cover his Canadiens and Avalanche championship years. Modern Upper Deck SP Authentic, The Cup, and retrospective Canadiens and Avalanche sets offer signed and patch options for the St. Patrick collection.

About Patrick Roy at FreshDCards

Patrick Roy is St. Patrick — the goaltender who proved Conn Smythe MVPs come in threes. Four Stanley Cups (two with Montreal in 1986 and 1993, two with Colorado in 1996 and 2001), three Conn Smythes, three Vezinas. He invented the modern butterfly style and the wink-at-the-shooter ice-time the position now treats as standard. The famous departure from Montreal in December 1995 — hung out to dry by coach Mario Tremblay during a 9-1 loss — became one of hockey's most replayed exits, and the trade to Colorado four days later set up two more Cups within five years.
